A two-year experiment in becoming
The Great American Eggsperiment is a living digital egg. From November 2026 to November 2028 it will grow and change in response to measurements of how Americans live, behave, perceive and respond to one another, and then hatch into a creature no one can predict, least of all its creators.
How it works
Published public data shapes the egg through eight separate dimensions (well-being, cooperation, hostility, trust, civil liberties, division, participation, resilience), never a single score. Strain leaves cracks, recovery leaves scars that harden, cooperation grows buds. Every change goes into a public, tamper-evident history that anyone can replay and verify.
What it is not
Not a poll. Not a verdict on America or on anyone in it. Not a prediction. It is an artistic representation, and its limits are stated in the open: what it measures, what it can't, and where the data is thin.
Why an egg
An egg is potential: it holds a history it hasn't lived yet. Two years is long enough for a country to change, and for the egg to carry the marks.

Scheduled start of official incubation. From then on, each week of verified data is recorded in the public history, beginning from the exact egg you see now. Incubation starts only when the creators activate it once the measurement method is finalized and published; until they do, the egg stays exactly as it is.

The egg hatches into a creature generated from its entire developmental history. There is no preview: nothing about the hatchling exists until the moment it opens, and it will be revealed to everyone at once.
